We are so excited to host the Making Backpack camp! We’ve hosted classes for this project in the past, but this is the first time that we’ve designed the class to be suitable for kids. In this intermediate-level camp, kids will be making the mini version of the Making Backpack by Noodlehead. This project measures approximately 8” wide x 10½” tall x 4½” deep. It features a zipper opening, various pockets, two carry handles, and adjustable straps. In the camp, kids will learn how to read and follow a sewing pattern and explore bag-making techniques, including installing a zipper, applying interfacing, attaching straps, and constructing a gusset. The backpack is an adorable and useful project that easily stores everyday essentials, and it will quickly become a well-loved item in kids’ lives.

Sewing Experience & Age Requirements: Because the Making Backpack is an intermediate-level project, kids must have previous sewing experience in order to attend this camp. We ask that kids be at least 11 years old or older, and they must have attended at least three sewing classes in our studio prior to attending this camp.

Materials: We will provide all materials, including sewing machines, sewing pattern, interfacing, fabrics, and hardware. Please send a small lunch; we will have a short lunch break in the middle of the day.

As part of our camp program, we’re having a special machine promotion from now until the end of summer! If your child falls in love with sewing and decides that they want their own sewing machine, you can purchase one of our beginner-friendly models for only $299! Our beginner-friendly machines are easy to use, have a variety of utility and decorative stitches, and will adapt as your child’s sewing skills improve.

After purchasing a machine, your child is welcome to bring it to their camp so that they can learn how to use it. As always, unlimited owner lessons are included with every machine purchase; your child can come back to our store and we’ll teach them how to use their machine for free, even if you purchase it after the camp.
