BOGART: Girl's Cotton Dress - KIDS' SUMMER CAMPS 2026

In this camp, campers will dive into garment sewing by creating their very own sleeveless cotton dress from start to finish. There is nothing cooler than being able to wear what you sew!
This camp is suitable for advanced beginners who are ready to add one more skill to their sewing journey. To make the dress, we’ll use the Kensington Dress Pattern by Little Lizard Kind (without a collar), a stylish and versatile garment that can be worn to any event: school, church, shopping with friends, dinner plans, amusement parks, and more. It highlights a flowy skirt, fitted top, and snap-on buttons on the back; depending on time, we may even be able to add pockets to the dress! For those who love a little extra flair, they can even stitch some decorative trims to the edge of their skirt.
With the Kensington Dress, kids can serious step-up they skills — they’ll cut a fitted pattern, sew with a precise seam allowance, stitch around curves, gather fabric to create a ruffle effect, construct a fully-lined bodice, and install snaps. There’ll even be an opportunity to use a serger to give everyone’s dresses a nice, professional finish.
Just be warned: after making one dress, there’s a very high chance that your child will take up sewing indefinitely and build an entire closet full of Kensington dresses!
Materials
Sewing machines, the dress pattern, and KAM snaps are provided.
Fabrics are a separate purchase and are not included in the cost of the camp, but they can be purchased at our store for 20% off. This is the supply list:
• Fabrics for the dress - Make sure that it is a COTTON WOVEN such as quilting cotton (no stretchy fabrics, please!)
- 1 ¼ yd for skirt material
- ½ yd for bodice material
- ½ yd for bodice lining
It is OPTIONAL but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to purchase your fabric in advance and prewash and tumble dry to preshrink the material so that the finished dress does not shrink when it’s washed.
• You can bring additional trims if desired, such as laces, rick-rack, iron-on decals, patches, etc. We’ll help your child install them during the camp.
Important Instructions
Before the start of the camp, please email TeriJustice@Gmail.com with the address line “Kensington Dress Camp” with the dress size that your camper would like to make. We need this information so that we can prepare their pattern before the camp begins.
Please view the size chart below — it is based on body measurements NOT finished garment measurements.

Tips for measuring: Use a flexible measuring tape to measure around the body for chest and waist measurements. A ribbon can also be used and then measured with a flat ruler or tape if a flexible tape is not available. It is important not to pull the tape too tight when measuring or the garment might end up too small! The tape should be touching the skin lightly, not falling down but not pulled tight. The chest should be measured at the broadest part of the chest, and the waist should be measured at the natural waist, usually the narrowest point. Height is the head to toe overall height.
***If your camper’s measurements do not fall into the children’s sizing or if their measurements fall all over the place on the size chart please reach out–we know all children’s growing bodies develop at different rates and we are more than happy to accommodate and help achieve a more custom fit!
Experience Level
This camp is suitable for kids that are at least 9 years old. This is a confident beginner project, and previous sewing experience is required to attend.
Additional Information
Please send a small sack lunch with your child every day. We’ll have a small break around noontime so that kids can eat and take a break from their projects.
