Whether you want to learn how to use a machine or are interested in making a special project, we invite you to book a private lesson at our studio!

In these one-on-one sessions, you’ll meet with our instructor and explore one of three topics: Sewing 101, Machine Familiarization, and Introduction To Garment-Making. Each session is $40 per hour. After attending your first lesson, you’re welcome to book another one or join one of our regular sewing classes.

Lessons With Mary
“Creativity” is Mary’s middle name! She embodies the term of “sewist” — sewer and artist combined into one word — and loves, loves, loves creating one-of-a-kind (and tremendously amazing!) fiber art from thrifted, upcycled, and unconventional materials. After working as an art teacher for 30 years, Mary retired, though she never strayed far from a classroom; she now teaches at our studio and is known for bringing smiles to her students’ faces. A versatile, organized, and attentive instructor, Mary encourages her students to problem-solve and think outside the box, all while emphasizing the importance of mastering skills and understanding the materials that go into a project. Specializing in a variety of projects — clothes, quilts, pillows, bags, bowls, and other accessories — there is no project too big nor too small for Mary!

You should book a private lesson with Mary if you…

Want to learn how to sew, are interested in learning how to use your machine, or if you want to explore new sewing techniques.

These are the lessons that she offers on a regular basis:

• Sewing 101 - Do you want to start sewing? Would you like to gift your child with the ability to sew? Learn in just an hour! Mary will teach you all the sewing basics. When you’re comfortable with the process, you’ll be able to sew your first project.

• Machine Familiarization - Do you have a sewing machine and want to learn how to use it? This is the lesson for you! Mary will teach you how to operate the machine safely, threading, winding a bobbin, changing needles, using stitches, attachments and more.

• Introduction To Garment Making or General Sewing Projects (e.g., Fabric Crafts or Home Decor) - A handmade life is a beautiful thing! In this lesson, you'll be introduced to the basics of construction based on your project. Explore how to read a pattern, gather materials, and use tools skillfully. You may not be able to finish a project during one lesson, but you’ll receive all of the information to help you get started.

Please note: When you book a lesson with Mary, you'll only be going over ONE one of these topics.

What To Bring To Your Lesson
• Your machine
• Thread
• Power cord and foot pedal
• Machine instruction manual and accessories for the machine
• Supplies for the project

Materials for any project that you make in a lesson are NOT included in the price, but they can be purchased at our store for 20% off. (Excludes machines.)

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule your private lesson, you must give notice to your instructor, call our store, our send us an email to let us know that you will not be able to make it. You must do this at least 24 hours before the private lesson is scheduled to take place. We will not be able to issue a refund to no-shows, same-day cancellations, or to students that do not give a cancellation or rescheduling notice 24 hours before their appointment.
