Paper Pieced Petals: Beginner FPP Class

Foundation paper piecing (FPP) involves the use of paper to piece intricate block designs. This paper is marked with solid and dashed lines; fold, stitch, and cut along these lines and watch your design come to life. This technique allows you to create incredibly detailed designs and shapes, all of which would be very hard to achieve with traditional quilt piecing. FPP is a fantastic, wonderfully therapeutic activity that any sewist can quickly master.

In this series, you’ll be able to make any of four foundation paper-pieced flowers by pattern designer Liza Taylor: a daisy, lotus, coneflower, or poppy. Each flower is beautiful and can be featured on another project, such as a quilt, bag, or wall hanging. In piecing each flower, you’ll discover the basics of FPP, learn how to read an FPP pattern, work with helpful tools and notions that can make or break your project, and more. Come to one session and make one flower, or attend both sessions and stitch two!

Class Structure
In each session of this series, you’ll make one flower. We will meet on October 8 and October 22; come to both sessions, or attend the one that best suits your schedule. In each lesson, you will have the opportunity to sew any bloom that you'd like.

The pattern includes various sizes; we’ll be making the 7 x 7 size.

Materials
This class includes all materials:
• Pattern - Each class includes the session’s featured pattern.
• Fabric - We will include pre-cut fabrics for you to work from for class. You may also wish to bring your own fabrics or purchase some new pieces. (As part of the class, you'll receive 20% off on class materials at Sew Sew).

Experience Level
Attendees should have a basic understanding of how to use a sewing machine and be able to sew in a straight line.
