Color Play: An Introduction To Color Theory

Shade? Tint? Hue? Tone? Does working with color and all the color theory terms overwhelm you, especially when it comes to choosing the best fabrics for your next project? Let’s break it down!

In this interactive color theory class, we’ll take a deep dive into colors and explore the ways in which they can make-or-break every project that you create. Make a special color notebook, go to town as you play with different shades, hues, tones, and tints (don’t worry-we’ll explain the difference between all of these terms), and increase your color confidence. 

Remember the countless projects that you poured your heart and soul into, only to end up hating them because the color choices were terrible? Those days are over. From here on out, you’ll be selecting the perfect fabrics for your projects every single time!

Class Structure
This is an interactive, lecture-based class. Students will be able to make a color notebook with a rainbow of fabrics.

Experience Level
This class is suitable for everyone. If you’re a sewist who struggles with color, you should definitely attend!

Materials
All materials are included in this lesson. Students will receive the following items:

• A fun scrap bag that with different variations of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple
• A composition notebook
• A glue stick
