Free-Motion Quilting Class: Making A Reverse Applique Tote Bag

Learn three new techniques in one single class: free-motion quilting on a domestic machine, reverse appliqué, and bag-making!

We promise you, free-motion quilting is not as intimidating as it seems. Your instructor, Kay D., is a FMQ expert; by the end of the class, you will be an FMQ expert, too. (Or be well on your way to becoming one!)

This is the structure of the two-part class:
First Class: Choose your fabrics (one batik, one solid) and start learning the basics of free-motion quilting. You'll start quilting your fabrics, and the instructor will give you plenty of guidance so that you can achieve a successful design.
Second Class: Start cutting into your quilted design to reveal the pretty batik underneath. This sounds very scary, but again, we promise it's not - You will be amazed at what is revealed underneath! Finally, you'll transform your finished design into a generous-sized tote bag that fits all the things!

Experience Level: This class is suitable for experienced sewists. Participants should have previous sewing/quilting experience and know how to operate their sewing machines.

Materials Required: Materials for the tote bag are included with the price of the class. Students should bring their domestic machines to the class. These machines should have the following features:
• A free-motion quilting foot set (a darning foot or an open/closed-toe foot)
• A drop feed function
• An extension table (This is optional, but it makes the FMQ process easier)
Skill Level:
intermediate
Materials Included:
All materials for the tote bag are included. Please provide your own domestic sewing machine.
