This is a 6 session series curated for any beginner homeschool student. Open to ages 7 and up. The students will learn a different skill each class and complete a project during that time (including a short lunch/play break.) All materials are included.
Session 1: Machine basics ~ threading, filling bobbins, strait stitches, flipping projects right side out and learning how to take out mistakes. Projects will include bookmarks and cards.
Session 2: Casings and elastic usage ~ learn how to add elastic to a project. This builds on the strait seams learned in session 1. Project: Plastic bag dispenser.
Session 3: Cutting using fabric scissors ~ following a pattern. Projects keychains and stuffies.
Session 4: Reading a pattern ~ measuring for size and looking for a supply list. Project, sleeping shorts
Session 5: Mixed Practice and beginning appliqué. Project, tote bag with appliqué.
Session 6: Quilting basics ~ Piecing, quilting, binding. Project, mini checkerboard quilt.
By the end of this series, the student should be able to navigate well through any beginner/advanced beginner series that we offer here at SewSew or be able to take off on their own with a good foundation. We will offer one make up day for any classes missed on October 26.
Please pack a lunch, drink, and mask for your child. We are not requiring masks to be worn at their spaced out sewing stations, but do request they bring one to use if interacting closely.
