Kaylee took to sewing like a moth to a flame when the pandemic hit in 2020. Masks were her gateway drug; after making alllll the masks for family and friends, she wanted more. Kaylee sought other avenues to get her fix, and soon found it in the bagmaking community. She’d been trying to light a creative calling that she’d had for years, and she’d finally found it! After making and experimenting many patterns, she perfected her work and, with encouragement from her tremendous support system, she opened up Thread of Fate Studio on Etsy later that year.
Quilt pattern designer, lifelong creative, fantastic baker, and a fabulous, captivating storyteller, Jeannie never meets a stranger. She’s got an infectious personality and a radiant smile, always bursting at the seams to tell you an amusing (and oftentimes cheeky) story. This positive energy of hers shines brightest when she is creating something, as Jeannie expresses her happiness and compassion for others through the things that she makes. Knitting, quilting, garment sewing… Jeannie is always creating something for friends and family.
Karry, no matter the day or time, always has a smile on her face. She is one of the sweetest people that you will ever meet! She and her daughter, Taylor, are regulars at our Open Sew Fridays; every week, they look forward to catching up on their creative projects in our cheerful space. (Karry and Taylor play a big role in helping us create this friendly environment — they bring in all of the radiant energy with them and it’s awesome!) As an avid quilter, piecing is her jam, with longarming falling as a close second. One of the things that makes her the happiest is finishing a quilt! When she’s not sewing, you can find her camping and hiking. And, although she loves, loves, loves sewing, her best hobby is definitely being a grandparent to a sweet baby boy. She received this new title in September, and ever since then, she and her husband have been over the moon with the new addition to the family.
With her tenacity, amazing resourcefulness, unbridled creativity, and masterful organizational skills, Jo Ann could rule her own empire! (And she kind of did, prior to her retirement. She was a station manager for the postal service, a monumental job that is not for the faint of heart, but Jo Ann handled it with grace and authority.)
Was Elizabeth busier when she was a high-school math teacher or during her retirement? Trick question — what retirement? Her zest for life keeps her very active! After a very long and rewarding career teaching the minds of tomorrow, Elizabeth is a regular at senior fitness classes, volunteers frequently at various local charitable organizations, and helps her husband with his own hobbies. Most importantly, since trading in her grading hours for crocheting hours two years ago, Elizabeth has been a prolific crocheter. She’s hooked on the craft!
Sarah’s grandmother taught her how to sew when she was 10 years old, but sewing wasn’t a big part of her life until she entered her early twenties. This is when she got hooked on quilting, and, after having her first child, she jumped to making children’s and women’s clothing. Today, she’s a mom of four and has been sewing for her family for eleven years. When she’s not sewing or spending time with her kids, Sarah enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, and taking care of her Springer Spaniel, cat, and chickens. What a full and joyous life!
Holly Weimer
Creative, incredibly kind, witty, funny, and an overall awesome human, Holly is someone that you definitely want to be around! She’s a mom of two, an avid reader, and a puzzle player. In the daytime, she works in education on the fundraising and development side, but is always looking forward to her moonlighting gig as a modern quilter and bagmaker. Holly loves a good pattern, and bright-colored fabrics are an obsession. Give her anything with Tula Pink, whimsy prints, or bugs, and she’ll be a happy camper. She’s a threat to all because she’s not afraid of zippers—that is, until she encounters curves, which have been known to stop her dead in her tracks.
Like many of us, Holly has been sewing for most of her life, but the hobby really took off in 2020, when she set a New Year’s Resolution to make one project a month. Little did she know, this resolution would snowball into an itch to stitch all kinds of projects that bring her joy. Jump to 2023, when she was a featured vendor at our Makers’ Market—she crushed the event, because of course she did! People couldn’t get enough of her fun and functional accessories. This year, Holly’s back for more, and she couldn’t be more excited for all of you to discover her new handmade products: project bags accented with cork, headbands that can elevate any outfit, quilty pouches with a million uses, and lively quilts to brighten up dreary winter days.
