- OUR LONGARM RENTAL PROGRAM -

Our beloved Sew Sew Studio BOGART long arm machine, the Janome Quilt Maker Pro 20", is available to rent!  If you don’t own a long arm, rental sessions give you a great opportunity to finally finish your quilts yourself.  For your session, you can choose to free-motion quilt your project or opt for edge-to-edge quilting using ProStitcher, a computerized quilting software that has over 800 designs. This program is also a great way to get to know Janome's long arm machines when planning to purchase your own. Please take note that we only have the long arm machine available at our BOGART location.

How Does It Work?

  • All quilters that rent our long arm machine must be long arm rental certified by Sew Sew Studio.  To gain this certification, you need to sign up for our Long Arm Certification Course.

    • Quilters that previously enrolled in our familiarization course (2024 or earlier)
      • If you received your certification through our Long Arm Familiarization and Pro-Stitcher Classes that we hosted in 2024 and earlier AND (this part is important!) have rented time on the long arm in the last two years, you are considered longarm certified and will not have to enroll in our new Long Arm Certification Course. Feel free to skip to Step #2 on this list.
      • If you are not proficient enough to quilt with light assistance on the machine due to a prolonged absence or other need, we may ask you to enroll in our new Long Arm Refresher Course for $75, plus your $25 rental per hour.
    • New to the Program? START HERE.
      • The cost of our Long Arm Certification Course is $150 for the certification PLUS the regular long arm rental fee of $25 per hour.
      • Your Long Arm Certification Course will double as your first long arm rental session. As you learn the machine during this session, you will quilt your first project, so be sure that you bring your unfinished quilt top, backing, and batting. (max size 70x70, please)
      • The Long Arm Certification Course is a private four-hour (approximate) session with one of our long arm specialists, where you’ll receive in-depth, one-on-one instruction on utilizing our shop long arm. With our specialist, you’ll learn to rack your quilt, thread the machine, wind a bobbin, baste, test tension, and quilt.  Our long arm specialist will assist with learning the basics of free-motion quilting or teach you to set up the design in the ProStitcher software for edge-to-edge automated quilting.  The highly personalized nature of the session allows you to be very hands-on and learn the machine much more thoroughly than you would in a traditional lecture lesson. We sincerely hope that this allows our customers to feel more confidence in their ability to use the machine in further sessions.
      • Our Long Arm Certification Course is best suited for quilters that intend on quilting many quilts on our longarm. If you only plan to quilt a couple of items, you will want to use a professional long arm quilting service instead, due to the cost, time, and effort that it takes to learn how to use our machine. Sheila of Thirty4Stitches is our go-to for professional longarm quilting services - she will make your project shine with a beautiful finish! Our store is a drop-off spot for her business, so you can drop-off your projects at Sew Sew and get them back a couple of weeks later. Click HERE to learn more about Thirty4Stitches.
  • After becoming certified on our Janome QMP 20" long arm machine, you can rent our long arm for $25 per hour, plus thread (cost calculated per bobbin - a small fee)
    • We will have staff on hand for assistance during this time, but staff members will also work the shop during this time and may not be as readily available as they are in your first certification session. Should you feel unable to handle the machine with light assistance from store staff, we encourage you to sign up for a Long Arm Refresher session for just $75, plus the $25 hourly rental charge.

  •  Information About Custom Quilting
    • When using Pro-Stitcher robotics to complete your quilt on the shop long arm you have the option to combine block or edge-to-edge patterns for a more custom quilt design. This is considered 'custom quilting'. You must have at least 20 long arm rental hours to 'custom quilt' with Pro Stitcher. Custom quilting CANNOT be done during your certification session.
Additional Information
  • For all of your long arm rental sessions, you'll need to bring your unfinished quilt top, backing, and batting. You're welcome to bring your own thread, though we prefer Omni Thread for beginners due to its user-friendliness.  We have lots of colors in stock and charge only for the number of bobbins used on your quilt.
  • On average, a throw-sized quilt takes three to four hours to finish. A Queen or King size quilt takes approximately 6+ hours to finish.  Please limit your certification quilt to 70"x70" max size.  Save the bigger ones for future sessions.
