- Celebrate Fall At The Taylor-Grady House! -
This season, Sew Sew Studio is honored to partner with the Taylor-Grady House to bring you the Celebrate Fall Event! From October 3 through October 11, this special fall programming consists of four events that combine art, heritage, and fellowship.
All events will take place at the Taylor-Grady House, located at 634 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA 30601. For more information, click HERE.

Since its construction in 1844, the Taylor-Grady House has long been a fixture of Athens, GA. Important figures like General Robert Taylor and Henry Grady built their legacies while calling the beautiful Greek Revival manor their home. Today, this architectural gem is known for its Southern charm and simple elegance, serving as a National Historic Landmark, house museum, event venue, and community space. Through the various programs that it hosts, the Taylor-Grady House seeks to be an open door where everyone can experience an inclusive history through education, preservation, and hospitality.
Enjoy some light refreshments and catch a special first look of the Quilt & Lace Exhibition! On this cozy October night, you can roam through the storied halls of Taylor-Grady House and peruse the exquisite antique and contemporary quilts and laceworks that will be on display.

The Airing Of The Quilts Ceremony pays respect to the traditions that past generations practiced during trying times: First People’s customs for remembering the dead, rituals that prepared for the change of season and harsh winter ahead, and folklore passed down by passengers of the Underground Railroad and by unaccompanied, widowed women during Gypsy migrations.
Grady-Taylor House’s Airing of the Quilts invites you to honor this rich history of quilts -- bring your treasured quilts, blankets, and textiles to this event and let them be refreshed by the autumn air. As you hang your pieces on the manor’s porch railings, you'll be part of a living tapestry that honors the past while connecting us in the present. Not only will this day impress the importance of preserving our heirlooms, but it’ll also be a celebration of and a chance to share the stories woven into every stitch of your keepsakes. Whether you're a lifelong quilter or simply appreciate the warmth and artistry of these pieces, you’ll love sharing the fellowship with other textile enthusiasts.

Through generations, quilting and lacework has connected communities and allowed people to tell their unique stories of family, migration, and quiet traditions through threads. The inaugural Quilt & Lace Exhibition celebrates this rich heritage; the event will showcase a stunning display of antique and contemporary quilt and lacework pieces, presented through the historic rooms of Taylor-Grady House. Not only is this an artistic display for all to enjoy — it’s a symbolic gathering where we can connect with our roots, share the art and history of our textiles, and ensure that the legacy of these beautiful pieces continues for generations to come.
Special features of the show include a replica of an 1886 quilt, quilts that date as far back as 1897, a vintage wedding gown, and two antique Katha quilts. Sew Sew Studio is going to have our customers’ quilts on display and our team will show visitors how to make a quilt square; after the show, we’ll piece it into a community quilt to display at next year’s exhibition. Athens Lacemakers will also be on-site on October 9 from 5 to 7 PM and all day on October 11 to demonstrate the art of lacemaking.
