ABOUT LONGARM-A-PALOOZA
Longarm-A-Palooza is a quilting education event that we’ve created for prospective longarm owners so that they can receive extensive training on using a longarm machine.

From August 17 to August 19, our guest instructor, Miriam Coffey, will break down the entire longarm quilting process from beginning to end. Miriam is a Janome educator, longarm specialist, and award-winning sewist; with her instruction and training, you will be able to transform into a more confident and skilled quilter. 

At this event, she’ll advise you on the best quilting practices, teach you how to quilt different motifs and patterns using free-motion quilting and pantographs, guide you in navigating the ProStitcher computerized quilting software so that you can make edge-to-edge designs easily, and cover many other topics.

Although we host regular longarm familiarization classes at our studio, Longarm-A-Palooza will be much more thorough and in-depth. It’s a rare chance to learn the ins-and-outs of longarm quilting from an industry expert, and you will leave the event fully equipped to begin making the quilts you’ve always dreamed about.

Introduction To Longarm Quilting Class
Experience a longarm machine in action! In this class, the instructor will:

✓ Explain how a longarm machine works. You’ll learn about the functions of the machine, become acquainted with the various frame options, review the quilt loading process, and much more.

✓ Teach you how to make different motifs using free-motion quilting.

✓ Demonstrate how to use paper pantographs to make show-stopping quilts.

✓ Present the types of feet that can be used on a longarm machine. This is an important, yet often overlooked, part of longarm quilting. Different feet can make it easier to achieve certain effects in your projects; knowing which one to use for specific techniques will help you get the best results every time.

ProStitcher In-Depth Class
ProStitcher is a computerized quilting software that is fully compatible with our longarm machine, the Janome QMP 20”. In short, ProStitcher does the hard work for you; simply choose one of the software’s available 800 built-in designs, set your quilt’s settings, hit “GO”, and the longarm will start stitching automatically — edge-to-edge and custom quilting have never been easier! ProStitcher is a robust program with tremendous capabilities; in this class, you’ll explore how to navigate it so that you can make professional-grade quilts with impeccable designs.

The instructor will cover many topics, including:

✓ Edge-to-edge quilting

✓ Off-setting edge-to-edge designs (e.g. Clamshells)

✓ Cropping stitches in an appliqué block

✓ Positioning designs on imperfect blocks in order to give them the appearance of being perfect.

✓ Using the mark feature to do stitch-in-the-ditch and straight-line quilting without a ruler.

If you buy a longarm machine during Longarm-A-Palooza, you’ll be invited to this exclusive training. The material that will be covered in this session is designed to help you overcome many of the obstacles that new longarm owners often encounter. You’ll get information on how to load and advance your quilts, receive tips about the best thread choices and adjusting top thread and bobbin tension, and discover some of the less frequently used features in ProStitcher.
